How it all started
As a basic human right, health and wellbeing should be attainable for everyone. Despite what many may think, we don’t need endless supplements, expensive equipment, and frequent doctor visits to be healthy. What we need instead is to learn how our bodies function and honor our bodies unique and innate ability to heal itself naturally. In today’s world, however, we have come to think that doctors make us healthy, overlooking the fact that we are each responsible for our own health. Rather than assigning doctors the role of health “fixers”, we should make them our health teachers.
Naturopathic medicine
In the field of naturopathic medicine exists a set of principles that serve as the foundation on which the discipline stands. One of these principles is Docere (the Latin root word for ‘doctor’ which means to teach). This principle was created on the premise that doctors shouldn’t gate-keep information or have their patients rely on them for their health, but rather they should teach them how to be healthy and cultivate a nourishing lifestyle. This is the reason I created Afia Naturopathics.
My goal
Although I am not a doctor yet, as a naturopathic medical student, I feel compelled to share what I learn as I embark on this journey to becoming a doctor. My goal is to empower you to take charge of your own health through knowledge. By distilling complex scientific papers into digestible information, and condensing what I am learning in my classes into practical, actionable steps, I aim to equip you with the tools you need to cultivate a holistically healthy life.
